Nancy Smart (Cline)

Nancy Palmer Smart Cline, 66, of Frankfort, Kentucky passed away November 17, 2013 at the Masonic Home in Shelbyville, KY. Born October 17, 1947 in Paris, KY, she was the second of four daughters born to Raymond Palmer Smart and the late Jane Alexander Smart.  

Nancy grew up in Paris, KY where she enjoyed her grandparents, sisters, friends and family. She was a member of the Girl Scouts, the Paris High School Marching Band and First Christian Church.  

Nancy attended Eastern Kentucky University where she received her Bachelor’s Degree in Art History and met her husband, James (Jim) M. Cline, of 45 years. She and Jim enjoyed traveling the country while Jim served as a helicopter pilot in the United States Army.  Her passion was always making a loving and welcoming home for her family. She and her husband finally settled in Frankfort, KY in 1979. After enjoying being home with her children, she worked for almost 17 years for Airdrie Stud Farm in Midway, KY, for the State of Kentucky as the Assistant Director of the Governor’s Mansion and also for the Department of Historic Properties, but most notably, she was a Mom.

In addition to her husband and father, Nancy is survived by her daughter, Catherine “Cate” (Christopher) Collett of Frankfort, KY; her son, John (Tracey) Cline of Frankfort, KY; her son, Matt (Ginger) Cline of Pearland, TX; her sisters, Elizabeth Smart (Randy) Runyon of Oxford, OH and Catherine Smart (Jamie) Wells of Flat Gap, KY; her brother-in-law, Jakie Elvove of Paris, KY; and her grandchildren, Henry, Nancy and Palmer Collett, Carson, Cameryn and Lillian Cline, and Geneva and Delaney Cline. She always loved and cherished her family which also extends to her 7 nieces and nephews and 9 great nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her sister, Ruth Smart Elvove.

A Gathering of family and friends of Mrs. Cline will be on Thursday, November 21st from 4-7 p.m. at the Clark Legacy Center, Versailles Road.  A Memorial Service will follow at 7 p.m. with Rev. Don Nunnelly officiating and Bobby Toohey speaking. A private burial will take place at a later date at the Carlisle Cemetery in Carlisle, Kentucky.
