Norvell Thomas Benton, IV, age 75, died on Thursday, December 1, 2022. He was the son of the late Norvell Thomas Benton, III, and Ethel Fightmaster Benton.
Tom is survived by his wife, Linda Mayo Benton; son, Sherman Benton (Stephanie), of Elgin; grandchildren, Austin Benton, of Bishopville, and Jacob Benton, of Elgin.
Tom was an avid outdoorsman. He loved hunting and fishing and loved teaching his grandchildren to enjoy the outdoors.
Funeral services will be held at Blaney Baptist Church on Monday, December 5, 2022, at 4:00 PM. The family will receive friends at 3:00 PM before the service in the church. SHOCKED! Out of the blue, Tommy called me this summer (2022) and we caught up on his and my life. Somehow, he heard my dad, Hamlet, was still alive and with me in Florida (probably through HC or a classmate). Dad's 98 and doing fair. So we talked about Dad and his electrical shop and football; said goodbye, and hung up. At that time, I assure you he had no idea about this problem with his health.
Those of us with fair to good health are blessed. We have so so much to be thankful for. Many friends and neighbors in Florida also have dire health issues, and I see all of this with my Dad, "every day" at assisted living. I'll always remember our fun conversation; it's a good last memory of Tommy who anchored our PHS football team's offensive line, playing tackle. My thoughts and prayers are with Tommy's family, David Collier 65'
